Pregnancy guidance
RecommendedCooked Atlantic herring is recommended during pregnancy as an FDA Best Choice fish. It is packed with omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA, vitamin D, and vitamin B12, while maintaining very low mercury levels. The FDA recommends two to three servings of Best Choice seafood per week to support fetal nervous system development. Cook herring fillets to 145°F, avoiding cold-pickled or unpasteurized preparations that may present bacterial concerns.
