Pregnancy guidance
AvoidRaw dry lentils must be avoided in their uncooked state during pregnancy. Uncooked lentils contain high concentrations of lectins and phytic acid that cause severe nausea, vomiting, and abdominal cramps. The USDA and FDA instruct that all dried lentils must be cooked thoroughly in simmering liquid until completely soft before consumption. Boil lentils properly to access their rich folate and plant iron safely.
