Pregnancy guidance
LimitExtruded corn chips should be limited during pregnancy because of high sodium and saturated fat content. They offer carbohydrates and small amounts of calcium from corn nixtamalization, but frying increases caloric density significantly. High salt consumption can exacerbate pregnancy-related swelling and strain cardiovascular health. Substitute baked corn tortillas or air-popped popcorn for a lighter crunch.
